The materiality of national flags is strictly correlated to the set of values that they carry and symbolize. Shifting Meanings is an attempt to explore the so called “flag-code”, a legal reinforcement to the protection and preservation of such values through the medium of the flag.

This legally regulated physicality is meant to stave off any intentional detriment to the national pride and principles: If you disrespect the flag, you are disrespecting the country.
On the other hand, the flag-code can be exploited by those who find themselves in need for a tool of friction, as it defines the boundaries outside of which national values can be rejected.
